I have known VPN and its benefits for many years, it encrypts your internet activity, thus offering you Privacy (Secure Browsing & anonymous Online File Sharing), and access blocked website, even watch blocked Video Website on Demand. I never tired it out myself until recently I traveled oversea and find myself having trouble accessing my regularly visited websites. I immediately realize the familiar circumstance and know someone is blocking the websites and certain type of internet traffic. I couldn’t watch YouTube or connect with my friends on Facebook. Worse still I hate those film companies who scan my IP address when I am using P2P like torrent downloading and eMule file sharing even I use them for legitimate file sharing. One way to stop being scan is using a free software called PeerBlock, but it is subscription based list updates mean you are not 100% protected. The better way of avoiding being tagged as illegal P2P file sharing is to use a VPN service that support P2P traffic. AceVPN‘s Ultimate Plan offers such service. An alternative may be BTGuard. I haven’t used BTGuard, so I cannot really comment on it.
You can use VPN in your company for accessing blocked websites or in a country which has internet censorship. You activities inside the VPN are invisible.
Some may prefer the use the free proxy server instead of VPN for visiting blocked websites and file sharing, but I cannot really recommended it, especially if you do your banking online or need to access a web service with a user name or password. VPN uses a secure channel to encrypt and transfer your traffic on the internet. Free proxies cannot really protect your data/traffic as well as VPNs, as all your data is saved on the proxy server till the next flush happens.
I came cross AceVPN first from the Australian PC magazine in a tutorial written by the author who recommends the VPN service as top notch. There are other VPN service Providers, but believe me you don’t want to try them out one by one. You can try the VPN service free plan if your chosen provider offers one. AceVPN has been performing excellent for me with fast speed and reliable performance. I will recommended AceVPN if you ask me for advice.
Servers in USA, UK, France, Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Luxembourg, Romania. The idea of having many server choices is you can connect to the VPN server that is closest to the content providers. For example, if you want to watch BBC’s TV program on BBC’s website, or use their iPlayer, you are best to choose AceVPN‘s UK server. While if you want to watch YouTube, you can choose to connect AceVPN‘s USA server for better playback performance, better still they have a dedicated USA TV server you can connect to as well. It should be good for Hulu.com, Fox.com, and pretty much all video sites in the US.
AceVPN Premium VPN plan has all the great features and is available for $5 per month or about 15 cents a day
PS: you can also protect your privacy or access blocked content on your iPhone or iPad or other mobile device which support VPN feature.
